About

Between 1981 and 2008 Intelligent Interfaces were involved in the design, development, manufacture and supply of microcomputer interface hardware and software principally for engineering and scientific applications.

Significant moments in the history of Intelligent Interfaces are listed below in reverse chronological order.

  • 2008 ceased trading.

  • 2006 migrates Optical Telescope Control Software written in Fortran from RISC OS to Linux for the University of Birmingham

  • 2003 develops (using Visual Basic) and markets, in collaboration with Elliott Instruments Ltd, the PCSpectralite image analysis software for Windows

  • 2000 develops serial communications software for PCs for Reuters Hong Kong

  • 1997 develops serial communications software for RISC OS based computers for AFE Computer Services Hong Kong

  • 1996 contibutes to the hardware and software development of specialised expansion cards for RISC OS based computers as a subcontractor to Ledbury Electronics Ltd

  • 1994 develops plant monitoring hardware and software for RISC OS based computers for the Cleveland Incinerator

  • 1993 develops video player control software for RISC OS based computers for the Institute of Child Health Bristol

  • 1993 markets the RISC OS Fortran 77 compiler (previously marketed by Acorn Computers Ltd)

  • 1991 migrates and markets the GINO Fortran Graphics Libraries for RISC OS based computers

  • 1988 - 1997 develops and markets a range of expansion cards (IEEE488, 16 Bit Parallel, Dual Serial, etc) for RISC OS based computers

  • 1987 develops a BBC Microcomputer 1 Mhz bus to Cambridge Bus interface for Paul Fray Ltd

  • 1986 develops and markets a DOS Terminate and Stay Resident (TSR) program to convert NEC Spinwriter to HP LaserJet printer control codes and enable the HP LaserJet printer to be used with IBM Displaywrite word processor software. This proves to be one of Intelligent Interfaces' most successful and profitable products

  • 1985 becomes an Acorn Scientific Dealer in order to market the Acorn Cambridge Workstation

  • 1985 develops and markets an 'intelligent' printer buffer to convert NEC Spinwriter to Olympia ESW 3000K daisy wheel printer control codes and enable the Olympia printer to be used with IBM Displaywrite word processor software

  • 1984 develops and markets the SYSCON 6 interface to enable Commodore Dual Floppy Disk Units and Printers to be used with the BBC Microcomputer

  • 1983 manufactures and provides support for the BBC Microcomputer IEEE488 Interface for Acorn Computers Ltd

  • 1982 develops a range of X/Y plotter microcomputer interfaces (for Apple II, Commodore PET and BBC Microcomputer) for J J Lloyd Ltd

  • 1982 becomes a distributor of high quality daisywheel, matrix and laser printers eg Olympia, Smith Corona, etc

  • 1982 negotiates a design, development and manufacture contract for the BBC Microcomputer IEEE488 Interface with Acorn Computers Ltd

  • 1981 formed by brothers Nick (marketing and sales - based in Stratford-upon-Avon) and Andy (technical - based in Chandler's Ford) Ray
